The Bandit process starts with a complete motor tear down, clean and inspect all parts. Motor case is stripped down to bare metal, field coils are tested and repaired if needed, field and brush studs are inspected and replaced if necessary, motor case bolt threads (rear end side bolt threads ) are inspected and chased with tap if needed, motor case bolt threads (end cap for brush rigging) are inspected and chased with tap if needed. The brush holder is inspected for cracks and or loose brush guides and replaced if necessary. The brush springs are inspected and tested for the proper tension and replaced if necessary. The brushes are inspected for loose leads, cracks, length and replaced if necessary then seated to remove hard glazing to allow the proper seating to the commutator. The armature is inspected and tested for weak, lifted or bad com bars. The commutator is machined and or polished to insure the proper fit for brush to commutator for max surface contact performance. The motor coupler on the armature is inspected to make sure it doesn’t have excessive wear (we don’t replace motor couplers). The armature then is high speed balanced to insure a smooth acceleration, no vibration at high speeds and then a high quality bearing is installed. Now, we build the motor back up with every part inspected, tested, cleaned and painted. During this build up process is when we do our trademark 12 point performance upgrade enhancements to each and every motor and date code for warranty purpose. Each and every motor is run on our custom built dyno machines before it goes to the packaging room for decals and boxing.

Note: If an aftermarket motor is sent in to have the Bandit upgrade done on it and this motor is for a EZ-GO DCS and PDS, Club Car Regen I, Regen II, IQ or Excel then you’ll use the original manufacturer’s field map setting if you upgrade the controller.
We can do the Bandit upgrade on all Club Car and EZ-GO 36 volt and 48 volt, Series and Sepex DC brush motors, as well as any aftermarket motor for these carts.
Note: Customer has 30 days to make payment of upgraded motor after we have contacted the customer that their motor is ready to ship back to them and if payment has not been made after 30 days of notification motor can be sold by Plum Quick to cover the upgrade cost.
Note: If customer sends in a motor Plum Quick deems to be unrepairable and/or unsuitable for upgrade the customer has 30 days after notification to have the motor sent back at their expense or the motor can be recycled by Plum Quick.
Series 36 volt and 48 volt carts will have a large lever for forward and reverse and no Tow/Run switch. Also, the field windings will be large gauge wire with 8 turns or less in most cases.
Sepex 36 volt and 48 volt carts will have a push button rocker switch for forward and reverse and a Tow/Run switch. Also, the field windings will be small gauge wire with multiple turns.
Note: Sepex motors upgraded to the Bandit will lose the regen braking feature.
36 volt Series carts with only the Bandit upgrade and all other components stock should get around a 20% increase in both overall torque and speed.
Note: Two different type motors were made for 36 volt Series carts for both Club Car and EZ-GO carts. One would be the gray GE brand thin can housing and the other being the black AMD brand thick can housing of these two the black AMD brand is the preferred motor. The gray 36 volt GE brand motor is ONLY to be used with 36 volts, stock components and standard tire height. However, the black AMD brand motor may be used with 36 volts or 48 volts with stock or upgraded components such as a higher amp controller. The difference between the two is with the gray 36 volt GE thin can housing the motor is a lighter duty motor that will draw higher amps and can over heat under harsh conditions, while the black AMD thick can motor is a heavy duty motor that can handle more load and because of this the motor will draw less amps doing the same or more work.
48 volt Series carts with only the Bandit upgrade and all other components stock should get around a 25+% increase in both overall torque and speed.
36 volt EZ-GO Sepex carts ( DCS or PDS ) with only the Bandit upgrade and all other components stock should get around a 25% increase in both overall torque and speed.
Note: The DCS motor has no speed sensor ( no wire pig tail on brush end of the motor ) while the PDS has a speed sensor ( see below picture of a PDS motor and the speed sensor ). You can use a PDS motor on a DCS cart because no speed sensor is used on the DCS cart. However, you can not run a DCS motor on a PDS cart with stock controller because the controller is set up to read the speed sensor pulse.
48 volt Club Car Sepex carts ( Regen I, II, IQ ) with only the Bandit upgrade and all other components stock should get around a 25% increase in both overall torque and speed.
Note: All the Club Car DS models with Sepex ( IQ )systems will have a black controller and the standard Bandit IQ upgrade will work.
Note: Precedent models with Sepex systems can have the black IQ controller, gray or white Excel controller. We’ll need the first 4 digits in the cart ID number to determine which Bandit upgrade will perform best with your cart.
Please note: It is a must that you have a good quality battery pack. At Plum Quick Motors we only use the BEST and in our opinion Trojan batteries are the top of the line.
The six volt battery will have three water fill holes, check your batteries once a month to ensure proper fill level is 1/8″ covering the battery plates. Use distilled water and always charge your battery pack after every use. Never let your battery pack go over one month without charging when not in use.
The eight volt battery will have four water fill holes, check your batteries once a month to ensure proper fill level is 1/8″ covering the battery plates. Use distilled water and always charge your battery pack after every use. Never let your battery pack go over one month without charging when not in use.
The twelve volt battery will have six water fill holes, check your batteries once a month to ensure proper fill level is 1/8″ covering the battery plates. Use distilled water and always charge your battery pack after every use. Never let your battery pack go over one month without charging when not in use.
Note: The absolute best way to check the quality of your battery pack is to do a running voltage drop test across the whole battery pack. To perform this test you can use a cheap $20.00 or less voltmeter.
You’ll hook the meter leads across the battery pack, RED goes to the Positive post and the BLACK will go to the Negative post. See the below charts for + and – locations depending on a 36 volt, 48 volt (6 – 8 volt batteries) or 48 volt (4 – 12 volt batteries).
Once you locate the + and – connections on the battery pack, zip tie or use clips to hold the meter leads in place. Now place the meter dial on DC volts on a low scale as to read the pack voltage. Drive the cart holding the meter, you’ll get a voltage drop at take off as the cart is under a torque load. The pack voltage will drop and at the same time the amps will rise this is normal, once you get to full speed on level ground the pack voltage should be back to full voltage (36 volts on a 36 volt cart and 48 volts on a 48 volt cart) or very close to it. If your voltage is much less than full pack voltage (one or two volts makes a HUGE difference), then you may have a weak or a bad cell in one or more of your batteries. Remember, the battery pack is only as strong as the weakest battery in the pack! You can repeat this same test on each battery to find the weak link in your battery pack. Never put a new battery in with used batteries as the pack will never balance out properly. If you have to replace a battery in a used pack, replace with a used like brand battery. If the battery pack is maxed out running the stock motor and you put in a Bandit upgraded motor you could get a larger voltage drop as the Bandit motor will be a higher horse power motor and call more power to achieve greater torque and speed. The lower the voltage is across the battery pack the higher the amp draw can be and cause an over heating issue with cables, controller, F&R switch and/or the motor. This is why I always stress to all my customers make sure you have a good quality battery pack. The battery pack is the heart of the golf cart and without a good quality battery pack you’re never going to get full potential out of any performance upgrades!
Make sure your brakes are not dragging, you should be able to push and pull your cart with the brakes released on flat terrain. Also, make sure your tires are properly inflated to 25 – 30 psi.
Note: Customer must send in a repairable motor. If we have a proper motor core in stock you can purchase one of our motor cores to have upgraded to the Bandit for $200.00 extra added to the Bandit upgrade of $285.00 $250.00. You can call for availability 1-803-548-7205.
Club Car Identification Charts
Note: With Club Car you’ll need to make sure the throttle is in good working order. If your cart has a V-Glide make sure at full throttle that the wiper arm is making contact with the last copper contact in the housing, if not adjust the linkage to ensure 100% throttle at full pedal.

Note: If you have a Club Car with mcor throttle make sure the mcor is sending 100% throttle at full pedal. Club Car IQ carts have a port to read the settings with a hand held programmer.
EZ-GO identification charts:
Note:</strong > With certain EZ-GO carts (1994 – current) you’ll need to make sure your ITS is set properly to insure you receive 100% throttle at full pedal.
Note: We like to make sure the plugger rod sticks out around an 1/8″ to ensure 100% throttle.
To maximize performance replace rear end fluid with high grade synthetic motor oil.
Increasing torque to your Bandit upgraded 36 volt or 48 volt Series motor: If you have the AMD style thick can housing you can upgrade to a 500 amp controller. If you have the 36 volt GE style thin can housing I wouldn’t recommend using anything above stock components, however if you have the 48 volt GE style thin can housing you can use a higher amp controller. *Note: South Carolina residents add 8% for sales tax*

Heavy duty forward and reverse switch is not required with Sepex carts.
Note: If your current motor isn’t running I would suggest performing a motor test before you ship it in for the Bandit upgrade as to not pay for shipping just to find out your motor is beyond repair.
Motor Test for Series Carts:
Use a floor jack under the rear end center section to lift the rear wheels off the ground. Make sure you can turn the wheels by hand. Mark and remove all four motor wires. Use the below diagram and a fully charged 12 volt car battery. Make the jumper wires using 6 gauge battery cables. Once you touch the motor leads to the battery you’ll get a small arch and the wheels should turn slow. It doesn’t matter which direction the wheels turn.
Motor test for Sepex carts:
Use a floor jack under the rear end center section to lift the rear wheels off the ground. Make sure you can turn the wheels by hand. Mark and remove all four motor wires (isolate the battery pack first as to not damage the controller). Use the below diagram and a fully charged 12 volt car battery. Make the jumper wires using 6 gauge battery cables. Once you touch the motor leads to the battery you’ll get a small arch and the wheels should turn slow. It doesn’t matter which direction the wheels turn.
Note: If you have a Sepex cart and you decide to send us the motor for the Bandit upgrade make sure to flip the Tow/Run switch to Tow and then isolate the battery pack (remove the + cable from battery and – cable from battery) per below diagrams depending on your cart. This will help prevent controller damage when removing and installing the motor.

Box your motor up using a good quality cardboard box, add packing as to protect the motor studs from getting bent and help prevent the armature from coming out of the motor housing.

Name, address, phone number and if the motor is from a Club Car IQ cart give us the first four digits in the cart ID number as this will let us know which Bandit upgrade will perform best with your cart.

Note: Installing your Bandit upgraded motor:
Don’t put a bumper into the Bandit motor coupler once you get it back from Plum Quick. The Bandit motor has been tested on a dyno machine and if it had a coupler bumper and/or needed a coupler bumper it was tested and determined at that point to use or not. As for installing the motor onto the rear end, wire brush the rear end output spline shaft, you can spray a light coat of white lithium grease and now slide the motor onto the rear spline shaft all the way until the motor housing bumps the rear end housing. Line up and tighten the motor bolts to secure the motor to the rear end housing.
Note: When connecting the motor cables back to the motor it is a MUST that you use two wrenches (one on the nut near the motor housing, so this nut will not turn and the second to tighten the nut that will hold the cable lug) as to not spin the motor stud during the tightening of the cable lug to the motor
Note: Motor rotation:
Once you put in your Bandit upgraded motor and it goes in forward with the switch in reverse or goes in reverse when the switch is in forward, simply switch out the S1 and S2 motor leads if it’s a series cart or if it’s a Sepex cart isolate the battery pack and switch out F1 and F2. Test drive the cart and everything should work fine. If you have issues then please give us a call @ 1-803-548-7205.
Note: High speed gears are not recommended for carts with the Bandit upgrade.
Note:Motor temperature is very important in the longevity of any motor. Plum Quick motors recommends that the customer monitors the motor temperature with an inexpensive Infrared Temperature Gun. Monitor the temperature on the painted motor case. Motor case temperature of 190 degrees F or lesss is best. Don’t operate the cart with motor temperature above 190 degrees F as this can and will break down the winding and armature shellac causing a direct ground. To perform this test you can use a cheap $20 or less Infrared Temperature Gun.
All motors are guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one year from date of purchase from Plum Quick. All motors returned are subject to manufactures inspection and customer pays for shipping both ways.
Excluded from warranty are motors damaged due to the following with NO exceptions!
- Stalling the armature (pedal depressed and wheels not turning).
- Operating the motor under LOW or HIGH voltage conditions (running the motor on LOW battery pack or adding additional voltage to the motor).
- Exceeding the R.P.M. limit of the motor (running FULL throttle going down steep hills, running motor with cart on jack stands and no load on the motor).
- Prolonged HIGH amp draw (towing, hauling heavy loads, climbing steep hills or inclines).
- Using HIGH speed gears (high amp draw).
- Running OVER 22″ tall tires with stock controller (high amp draw).
- No warranty on speed sensor or magnet for Sepex Motors.
